Quitting the day job.
2021 was the year that I decided to take the plunge, I knew I wanted to be a full time creative so I quit the day job and became a freelance photographer. I was living in Manchester at the time and truthfully it was hard to capture new clients in the area. However, I pushed forward and started putting more effort into social media, worked on my branding, defining my offering as a family, portrait and event photographer. Although I am a little 'anti-social-media' it led to some great results every time! Each time I put something out on my channels something came back, new followers, awareness, new clients and soon after I was travelling back and forth from London to Manchester to photograph all sorts of occasions!
The next decision I made was to cut the hours traveling and make the move back to London after living in the north for almost 5 years! For me, it felt like an even bigger decision than quitting my job because it meant parting ways with a community that I had become a part of throughout university, friends and the community...In the end, with all the travelling and the growing demand from the London scene, I took it as a sign that I needed to be where clients needed me - my home town!
3 months after moving back I can say that I am confident that this was the right decision - I have had the great honour of being trusted to capture so many personal memories photographing bar & bat mitzvah, engagements, families, parties & charities. I have also had the opportunity to see other professional photographers in action at events and it has been wonderful to meet so many talented people from the creative community. I want to take the opportunity to say a big thank you to all of the clients, organisations and photographers that I have had the pleasure of working with during the course of 2021, I've been so inspired by you all at the cherished moments, the learning curves, the finished product!
Overcoming Challenges and Looking Ahead.
I'd say my biggest challenge this year was learning that not all jobs pull through, some take another direction, another photographer or are just not meant to be! If there is one important message that I learnt from 2021 which I will head into 2022 with it is that the jobs and opportunities that come my way are meant for me and if a job slips through my hands, I shouldn't lose faith, there's one better and more suited to me just around the corner. This year I am aiming to provide a monthly update for my followers and subscribers to give you a little insight into the daily life and the projects I am working on each month. I have a couple of things up my sleeve so, g-d willing, these projects will pan out!
I have certainly learnt a lot from 2021 and am looking forward to what 2022 has to offer. Check out my website to see my past work and get in touch via my website or WhatsApp +44 (0) 7 587 126 984 to book your next shoot. I can't wait to work with you!
